The Dumpling That Isn’t What It Seems!
In Yokohama, a food company called Kiyoken made an unusual announcement on April 1. The company said it would sell a new product that looks like its famous shiumai dumplings, but inside, it is actually filled with gyoza.
Many people online were confused. Some asked, “Is this real?” Others thought it was fictional and just an April Fools’ joke. This is because many Japanese companies share fake products on April 1 for fun. However, Kiyoken emphasized that this product is real and will be sold starting April 2.
The new product is called “Giyouza.” It comes in a pack of six small pieces and costs 350 yen. Although the filling includes Chinese chives and garlic, the outside looks identical to the company’s traditional shiumai. Customers can eat it cold or grill it for a stronger flavor.
“Giyouza” will be available in about 160 stores, mainly in Kanagawa and Tokyo. Kiyoken also apologized for any confusion and said they hope customers will enjoy this unique food.
