For example, curry bread is filled with curry, and yakisoba bread contains fried noodles. However, Nara Bread is not so easy to understand.

Nara is a famous city known for its friendly deer in Nara Park. Even though the bread is called “Nara Bread,” it does not contain deer meat. In fact, deer are protected and not usually eaten in Japan.

Nara Bread is also rare. You cannot buy it in most bakeries. It is only sold at one place called Hari Terrace, which is about 40 minutes by car from Nara Park.

This bread is very popular and often sells out quickly. One day, a reporter finally had the chance to buy it when the store made a second batch.

Nara Bread looks like a small baguette with a hard crust. Inside, it is filled with Nara-zuke, a type of Japanese pickle. These pickles are made by soaking vegetables like cucumber or melon in salt, miso, and sake lees.

The taste is salty with a strong flavor, but the bread also includes mayonnaise, which makes it smoother and easier to eat. The bread and pickles together create a crunchy and unique texture.

Nara Bread can be enjoyed in many ways. It is good for breakfast, as a snack, or even with drinks like beer or sake.

If you visit the area between Osaka and Nagoya, Nara Bread is a special local food worth trying.

Source: Kyodo News (English)

Comprehension Questions

Answer the questions following the article in English.

Where is the Kawai Community Center located?

How many vinyl records are in the center?

When did the vinyl corner officially open?

Why do older people visit the center often?

Summary

In your own words, attempt to summarise the article in 4 sentences or less.

Discussion

Discuss these topics with your tutor, and support your answers with examples or experience.

Have you ever used a vinyl record or seen one?
