This year, the bestselling<\/strong> book in Japan was not about heroes or mysteries. Instead, it was about children making mistakes. The book is called Dai Pinchi Zukan 3<\/em> by Noritake Suzuki. It is part of a popular illustrated series about a clumsy schoolboy who often finds himself in small troubles, called \u201cbig pinches.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nIn the book, everyday problems are ranked<\/strong> like product reviews. Small troubles include breaking disposable chopsticks unevenly or forgetting a water bottle at school. Bigger problems include an umbrella turning inside out or a cat following you home. Each problem is given a \u201cpinch level\u201d and a score showing how likely it is to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\nEarlier books in the series used fun charts to show emotions like embarrassment, anxiety, and irritation. The newest book adds a \u201ccarelessness<\/strong> meter,\u201d which shows how much the problem is your fault. For example, being called the wrong name is not your fault, but not listening in class is.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe books are very popular, selling 2.7 million copies in four years.
