Northern Lights in Hokkaido
People in Hokkaido saw the northern lights on Wednesday night. The northern lights are colorful lights in the sky. They happen when the sun’s energy reaches Earth.
A science museum in Rikubetsu said they saw red lights in the sky after sunset. Another observatory in Nayoro also took photos of the beautiful lights.
Usually, northern lights appear in places far north, like near the North Pole. They are not common in Hokkaido, so many people were excited to see them.
The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that a strong geomagnetic storm will happen on Thursday. This storm makes the northern lights easier to see.
